COPMA has introduced OVERRIDE, a drive-by-wire control system that lets any COPMA, PESCI or CPS crane be operated by electronic command rather than a mechanical linkage. The same trusted hydraulics gain precise control, remote operation and assisted motion, on new machines and on machines already in the field.
On a conventional loader crane, the operator's levers move the hydraulic valve through a mechanical link. OVERRIDE replaces that link with an electronic command path. Every boom, slew and extension then moves under closed-loop electronic control, which gives smoother starts and stops with less overshoot while running on the hydraulics the machine already has. Because the motion is controlled electronically, the crane can be driven from a handheld controller, locally beside the machine or from a safe standoff position.
In COPMA's field demonstration, a COPMA 228 mounted on a heavy truck is run entirely from a handheld controller. The operator reads the live state of the crane in real time: a digital twin of the machine, joint angles and pressures, slew, the load-moment envelope and stability. The interface is the same whether the operator stands next to the crane or works it remotely.
OVERRIDE is delivered as an autonomy ladder, and COPMA is clear about what is proven and what is still maturing:
The control stack runs locally on NVIDIA Jetson at the edge of the machine, driven by COPMA's proprietary world model, Kalypso v1.1K, which predicts the crane's motion before the hydraulics act. There is no cloud in the control loop, so the machine stays sovereign and keeps working with or without a connection.
OVERRIDE is available across the whole COPMA, PESCI and CPS range, for both civil and defense applications. On an existing machine it adds an electronic control layer to the hydraulics already in service; on a new machine it extends the COPMA Remote Connectivity 4.0 telemetry system to full drive-by-wire control. Either way, the proven lifting hardware is untouched.
A provisional patent application has been filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the OVERRIDE hydraulic control.
